The Responsible Students Peer Education Curriculum and Training (RESPECT) program has been implemented by BMS and The Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM) as partnering organizations for over nine years. The program targets a reduction in young peoples' risk for HIV/STIs by increasing their knowledge and building life skills. It does so by promoting positive changes in youth's sexual health attitudes and norms in order to prevent infections.
The longstanding program is credited with bringing about a real difference with pre and post surveys indicating a better understanding and a shift in risk perception, with substantial positive difference in the understanding of safe sex practices among young teens when compared with surveys conducted on the wider sexually active population.
